Enterprise Enrollment

Enterprise enrollment is the process of registering a device with an organization’s MDM platform so it can be managed, secured, configured, and monitored remotely. Enterprise enrollment transforms a consumer device into a managed corporate device.

Enrollment Methods

Organizations can use several enrollment methods depending on their needs and scale. QR code enrollment requires users to scan a QR code displayed on the enrollment screen. Zero-touch enrollment automatically enrolls devices when they connect to the corporate network. NFC-based enrollment reads enrollment credentials from an NFC tag. Manual enrollment requires users to enter enrollment information like email or enrollment token.

Pre-Enrollment Requirements

Before enrolling devices, organizations must set up the MDM platform with Enterprise ID and enrollment credentials. Users must have corporate accounts (email, directory account, or enrollment token). Network connectivity must be available.

Enrollment Process

When a device is enrolled, it goes through several steps: 1) Device identification and authentication, 2) MDM certificate installation, 3) DPC app installation, 4) Initial policy download and application, 5) Compliance check, 6) User account setup.

Post-Enrollment

After enrollment, the device is under full MDM control. Policies automatically apply, apps are installed, and compliance is monitored. Users may see enrollment notifications or setup wizards guiding them through device configuration.

Unenrollment

When a device is no longer needed or leaves the organization, it should be unenrolled. Unenrollment removes MDM control, wipes managed data (though can be configured to preserve some data), and removes the DPC.

Enrollment at Scale

For large deployments, automated enrollment methods (zero-touch, NFC) significantly reduce setup burden compared to manual enrollment. Organizations should plan enrollment strategies based on their scale and device procurement processes.
